Body Word: Men Addition
If you are unfamiliar with this project, it began with six brave women a year and a half ago. I wanted to explore the inner and outer beauty of women in a very vulnerable situation. They were given instructions to come with 40 words they felt connected to and then I'd photograph them. Each women decided how much skin they wanted to show and I assured them these photos would be nothing but tasteful. It was when one of the girls texted me right after the shoot, before she saw any photos, telling me how confident she felt about her body that I realized how much photography can change the way people see others and most importantly themselves. These women allowed to find a love in capturing the beauty of people. I am so grateful for that opportunity and these images. Original Body Word Project A year and a half later, I wanted to explore how men would act in a similar situation. What words would the men choose to put on their body? Would it be uplifting and a confidence boost for them as well? The men brought in words I would have never expected, I was really able to understand their feelings and was so honored to be able to share their thoughts about who they are through my photos. I gave the men the same choice, they could show as much skin as they wanted. One of the men was naked, covering his lower abdomen and at the last moment I asked would you like to do anything else and he said, you know what, I want to do this and dropped his hands. I snapped a few shots and I could just tell how empowering it was for him to bare all for my camera. I really love my talent, a lot. I love making people feel confident about who they are. If I have done that, I have succeeded as an artist. -Katy Bentz |
