ABOUT
Middle Women was started on April 11, 2012 with the mindset that no problem is too big to solve and no negative feeling is too devastating to work through. Take the time to reflect on how you are feeling, but to not let it consume you. The events in our lives may trigger thoughts that are scary to us. It is times like these when we need to reach out to those who will listen and not judge. Rebecca Rivero (now Rebecca Webber) founded Middle Women as a 21 year old Junior at Western Washington University.
The name “Middle Women” comes from the concept of spectrum thinking and speaks to the idea that every aspect of a person’s body and mind falls somewhere in the middle of a spectrum. No point along the spectrum is superior to any other point. Each individual person on this planet has the right and responsibility to live a life that is authentic to themselves and to maintain that authenticity as they choose to present their truth to their world. Only through these acts will humanity retain the integrity that we are called to uphold.
Middle Women is a passion project! As a part of her journey to heal from her own disordered eating and hypervigilance, Rebecca collaborates with individuals who were living with a wide range of physical, mental/emotional, and social insecurities, disorders, and disabilities.
From 2012 - 2015 the Middle Women team was extraordinarily dynamic; over 200 people contributed their time, value and energy to the project. They produced numerous photo projects, videos, and events. There are also dozens of articles, poems, and spoken word pieces written for and submitted to Middle Women over the years - many of which are available on MiddleWomen.com.
Rebecca was forced to take a break from Middle Women starting in April of 2015 when she became too sick to keep up with the work load. Over a year later, she is still struggling to recover from Toxicity-Induced Lack of Tolerance (TILT) but hopes to one day gather a fresh team and re-launch.
