Balancing Your Different Yous
by Rebecca Rivero
There is the you that you are right now, and the yous that people think you are, there is the you that you wish you were, and the you you want to become. These are all you, but at different times and in different situations. Some would say that these yous could be considered parts of your personal or internal and social or external identities. Whatever you want to call them and whatever form they come in, they are you. They are how you see yourself and how the world sees you.
You have choices to make when it comes to your internal and external yous. Both yous need a lot of attention. They will not come together quickly or easily. There are many resources out there about how to better the internal you and way too many ways to change your external you, but I don’t know if the resources that I have found about your external you are really in your best interest. This is not to say that you should not change your external you if you want to. The development of any you must come from a place of harmony and not as a reaction to external forces that don’t want you to be the you that you want you to be. Many external influences want you to be the you that they want you to be. See the difference? I believe that whatever decisions you make, no one has the right to make you feel like you are any less of a valid representation of a woman than any other women or that the version of you that you choose to be isn’t all that it can be. If you agree with that statement then it is important that you show the same courtesy to the women in your life that I am showing you.
